Yesterday was the OSU dehorning/castration/ultrasound clinic. Usually they split it up into two seperate days but not this year.
Poor Basil had horrible scurs when we got him as the result of a disbudding gone wrong and lack of follow up. One scur was actually growing into his skin on the side of this head and the other was headed towards his eye. I ccould have just had them trimmed, but would have to repeat it as they don't stop growing. So the best long term option was to have them surgically removed.
His expected recovery time is two months before he can be around any goat that he could butt heads with, and six months until the holes in his sinuses heal over. He will have to wear the "fancy" head gear and bandages for about a week and will be getting pain relievers.
