12/24/2010 1 Comment New addition to the familyMy dear neighbor Fay mentioned to me the other day that I have been bit remiss in my blogging, so this one's for you Fay. :) The last month has seen several changes around the ranch. Peggy Sue and her sister Prudy, along with Rio were sold to some people that had just recently purchased their dam. So it was a happy family reunion for them and Rio now has a harm of his own. Mystery's & Rio's boy Columbia went to that same home to be a wether companion for this sire, and his brother Willamette is off to be herd sire. Then a few days ago an unexpected opportunity came along for us to get an 8 week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy. I am a die hard American Pit Bull Terrier fan, and have always said that the only way I would ever get a smaller dog, was if it was a Staffy Bull. But they are not common around here and on the rare occasion I have come across one the price is usually beyond anything I could even remotely consider. But this time was different - the price was reasonable, if still a bit of a stretch for my limited budget, and since I had just sold a goat it was doable. We started off calling her Zoey, but hubby said the black markings around her eyes reminded him of Elizabeth Taylor in the movie "Cleopatra" and he suggested she be called Cleopatra or Cleo for short. Her first night here, our male cat Meeko decided her puppy chow smelled appetizing and so he bravely came over and she surprised us by willingly sharing her dinner with him. That moment seems to be the start of a friendship with Meeko coming to snuggle with her whenever he is around and even putting up with her licking and nibbling on him. Our other cat, Sophie, is a little more tentative, and doesn't appreciate getting bounced on. Izzy hasn't seen a dog that small (she only weighs 7lbs right now) since he was himself that size but he is doing pretty well in his attempts to play with her. And after she got over her shock of seeing such a big dog - she is happy to tag around after her BIG brother when they are out together.
